Wikipedia profile Founder and first director of Valencia University’s Human Rights Institute. He has been president of CEAR (Spanish Commission Spanish of Refugee Assistance) in 2008-2009 and member of the follow-up commission for the Spanish National Human Rights Plan (2009-2012). He has been director of the Spanish College in Paris (Cité international universitaire of Paris, CiuP), from 2005 to 2012. Since July 2011, by appointment of the UNESCO director-general, he is a member of the UNESCO HPSD (High Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation for Development), composed of 24 scholars from around the world. He is a scientific board member of numerous research institutes as well as specialised national and international scientific journals. Member of the editorial board of the Spanish edition of Le Monde Diplomatique and the scientific board of ATTAC. Director of Tirant lo Blanch editorial’s film and law collection and human rights series. He has been main investigator of 14 national and four European research projects. He has supervised 20 doctoral theses. As professor and researcher, he has published more than two hundred and fifty works (books and articles), in Spanish and foreign specialised journals, on legal theory and philosophy and human rights as well as political philosophy and legislative criticism, particularly on obedience to the law, legitimacy, interpretation and legal argumentation, citizenship, conscientious objection and insubordination, and legal issues relating to minority rights, multiculturalism, globalisation, solidarity, volunteerism, racism and xenophobia. For over 20 years, his primary research field has been immigration policy and migrant rights, and democratic challenges in the process of globalisation.
