The poet Luis García Montero inaugurates the Master’s and Doctorate in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice

“What if we really talk? (Rights are more important than causes). ” That is the title of the lecture given by the poet and professor Luis García Montero at the inauguration of the ninth edition of the Master’s and Doctorate in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice that will take place in the Aula Magna of the Building of the Nau on Thursday October 26, at 7:00 p.m. The lecturer will be presented by Javier de Lucas, professor of philosophy of law, moral and political and director of the Institute of Human Rights of the University of Valencia.

In his lecture, Luis García Montero will start from the book of meditations by Antonio Machado “Juan de Mairena. Sentences, Donaires, Notes and Memories of an Apocryphal Professor “, with the aim of investigating in Truth as” evil mechanism of control and sanctification of power “and in turn to claim” values ​​as indigent as truth, law, institutional knowledge and the literary will of the exchange of emotions in a common language.”

Luis García Montero (Granada, 1958) is a poet and professor of Spanish literature at the University of Granada. He is the author of eleven poetry books and several books of essay. He received the Adonais Prize in 1982 for The Foreign Garden, the Loewe Prize in 1993 and the National Literature Prize in 1994 for Separate Rooms. In 2003, with The Intimacy of the Snake, he was awarded the National Critics Award.

The Master’s degree, led by professors Cristina García Pascual and Rosario Serra, and the PhD program in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice of the Universitat de València, led by Professor Consuelo Ramón, have received the Honorable Mention of the Ministry of Education , which in Spain have only obtained eight masters of legal scope. In addition, the Human Rights Institute of the Universitat de València obtained a grant within the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 program for a project involving twelve research groups from different Spanish universities, coordinated by the Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Institute the Carlos III University of Madrid. It was the first time that a team formed by researchers from the legal field obtained aid of this type, mainly directed to scientific contexts away from the Humanities and Social Sciences.
